For those of you who love experimenting with technology, Project Boulder for InfraWorks 360 is available on Autodesk Labs, giving you the ability to create two-dimensional (2D) flood simulations alongside your immersive Infraworks 360 models. The video posted by Autodesk demonstrating the preview is definitely informative, but the dataset isn’t useful for seeing how this technology preview could be used in an urban environment. Being a New Yorker, I knew exactly the data set I wanted to use, but to test out the software I needed to come up with a scenario that could not only show Project Boulder in action but also tie-in the simulation with something quantifiable. After mulling it over, I came up with the overzealous idea of modelling Hurricane Sandy! (more…)

Autodesk Sim 360 is a Web-based FEA (finite element analysis) program meant for use early in the design process. It can be used to conduct studies on the effects of static stress, modal frequencies, structural buckling, fatigue, heat transfer, and thermal stresses – these were available at the time of the writing; more analyses may be added later. Autodesk targets the package at smaller engineering firms and independent consultants specifically, those that the company feels may have traditionally shied away from FEA because of either the investment required or time constraints.
There are a few things that are special about Sim 360.
Web-based. To begin with, Sim 360 is Web-based – ‘360’ being Autodesk’s moniker for Web-based services. This means that it can resolve a roadblock that prevents FEA tools from being used more widely: it harnessing the seemingly limitless processing power of what is more commonly referred to as “cloud computing.”
New York, NY and Philadelphia, PA, August, 2012 – Microsol Resources Corporation, a recognized leader in building information modeling (BIM) technology solutions, as well as a leading Autodesk Gold Partner serving the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industries, is pleased to announce that it has earned the new Simulation Specialization designation for value added resellers (VARs) from Autodesk, Inc., a world leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software.
Autodesk Simulation software delivers a fast, highly accurate and flexible approach to predict, optimize and validate designs earlier in the design process. The portfolio of products is a comprehensive set of simulation software tools that integrate into each phase of design — from mechanical stress, structural analysis, vibration and motion to computational fluid dynamics, plastic injection molding and multiphysics. This broad range of applications serves the needs of architects, engineers, manufacturers, and multimedia specialists, helping to improve collaboration, produce better and safer products, save time and reduce costs to achieve project goals. Simulation has grown in value not just for communication visuals, but as an integral part of design iteration.
“I am delighted that Autodesk has recognized Microsol Resources’ best-in-class services to the building community with a designation of Simulation Specialist. This validates and reinforces the qualifications of our team as a resource to bring basic simulation capabilities to beginning users, and advanced simulation to seasoned professionals,” stated Emilio Krausz, President of Microsol Resources.
Microsol Resources has earned numerous awards for its superior leadership in providing excellent support through a team of talented CAD/BIM Applications Experts.
