There is a phrase that continually pops up when I talk to people about 3D printing. “In ‘X’ number of years, everyone will have a 3D printer!”
Then I’m asked what sounds like a simple question, “How do I get started?”
Step 1: Do not over google. It’s the same as when you’re sick and you google your symptoms. All the illnesses pop up, plus some. Instead, pick up the phone and call the doctor.
Call it information overload. If you google, “How to get started with 3D Printing?” I guarantee the “Beginners Guide”, the “Basics”, the “Getting Started” and “How-to” is going to pop-up. Then you promptly tell yourself, the technology changes so quickly, I will wait. Bad idea.
Do you really want to go back to modeling everything by hand? No…
For years now, the best part of my job is educating people about 3D printing. The questions are incredible and many are the same, but the answers can be very different. For example, which printer is the right fit? What material? How much does it cost?
There are so many variables that a checklist or even a seminar might not do anything more than mystify you. Then you will walk away and tell yourself, in 10 years everyone will have a 3D printer…
Really? Why wait 10 years?
If you had a 3D printer today, what would you print?
There is no magic eight ball or blog post that can give you all the answers. You just have to dive-in and start printing today.
